How we started making classic car USB chargers

How did we come up with the Classic Car USB charger?

Well, first consider how do you charge a phone in a classic car?

We drive an old vehicle for the way it looks, the way if feels and the way it works. But we also live in the 21st century. We like to keep in touch and know where we are going by using technology. Technology that runs on batteries that need charging via a USB port.

Nobody wants to look at a modern USB charger screwed into their classic dashboard. Most people don’t want to smoke in their classic vehicle. Why not hide a USB charger in the ashtray so it’s there when you need it and gone when you don’t? So we did.

It wasn’t easy. Ashtrays are small, awkwardly shaped and a moving part of your vehicle. And they come in all shapes and size. Some slide, others pivot, some have lids, others flaps. Every ashtray has it’s challenges.

Challenge accepted.

The best USB charger you’ll never see.

To design a custom Classic car USB charger, first we will measure or 3D scan the ashtray for a particular model and year. Then we draw it in a 3D CAD program. We choose the most suitable shaped electronic circuitry from our inventory and design a housing for it to match the ashtray perfectly. It is then 3D printed from ABS, a tough material to 3D print, but the best to cope with the extreme range of temperatures that a car interior will endure. Finally we assemble, test and add it to our ever growing range.

We don’t charge any more than the typical cost of our other models.

Durable Construction

Classic Chargers USB charger housings are 3D printed from ABS thermoplastic. It is a material capable of withstanding the wide range of temperatures a vehicle interior encounters without distorting or deteriorating. The electronics are factory made to operate from 6 Volt to 24 Volt DC automatically. Most of our USB chargers are self regulated to charge two devices simultaneously at a maximum rate of 3 Amps. For very small ashtrays we use single port electronics.
